Why Man. United paid a huge price to sign Amad Diallo
A lot of questions have been going on in the minds of Manchester United fans as to the reason why the club considered signing a player who has only played for 24 minutes in the first team of his club. This player is no other person than Amad Diallo of Atalanta who will join the Man. United in January 2021 at an upfront cost of £19 million that might later appreciate to become £37 million if certain targets are met.
In his record, Diallo has only featured in Atalanta’s first team for just 24 minutes and with this, the majority of football experts and fans have no strong proven records of his performances/abilities and have become skeptical of the qualities United saw in him to have opted to sign him in the late hours of the transfer window that closed on October 5.
Surprisingly and according to reports, United scouts has been on the look-out for Amad Diallo as far back as 2016 when the Ivorian was just 15 years of age and he has always been recommended as a potential signing for the Red Devils before he had his first-team debut match for Atalanta against Udinese last year’s October where he made his history and held a record to be the youngest player to score in their debut Serie A match. In that match, Diallo was 17 years and 109 days and was brought in as a substitute in the 77th minute to score a spectacular goal for Atalanta.
Before settling to play for Atalanta, Diallo had previously played for Juventus, the two Milan clubs – Inter and AC Milan and according to observers of his style of play, he is regarded as one of the most sensational teenage footballers in Italy. He has also at a time been referred to play like Messi by Papu Gomez who is an Argentine footballer and Atalanta’s captain.
There is a doubt amid fans and football experts that Diallo would have instant impact on his arrival at Old Trafford and also if he will easily get a playing time as there are also other youngsters at the moment in Man. United such as the likes of Daniel James and Mason Greenwood who have both shown what they have to offer the club through their playing potentials.
Irrespective of the fans views about Amad Diallo, the United scouts and manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer alongside other observers of Diallo, believe that the Ivorian has great potentials to impact the club, if not now but later and it is worth having such players come to Old Trafford.
Should the deal eventually turn out to be £37 million, Diallo would be one of Man. United top 10 most expensive signings.
