Man Utd fans send unified message to Timothy Fosu-Mensah after transfer

Manchester United fans have sent their best wishes to Timothy Fosu Mensah after he completed his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

The right-back rejected a new contract at Old Trafford earlier this season and with six months left on his current deal, he has moved to the Bundesliga.

MEN Sport reported on Monday that a deal £1.5million deal was close to being agreed between the two parties and Fosu-Mensah has now been unveiled as an official Bayer Leverkusen player.

The 23-year-old made his senior debut for the Reds in 2016 against Arsenal after joining the club’s youth ranks from Ajax. He went on to make 30 appearances in total for United.

After several years of service, supporters were quick to send their thanks and best wishes to Fosu-Mensah on social media.

Fosu-Mensah’s exit this month was always likely after he turned down fresh terms with United. The club were aware of interest from Germany when they triggered a one-year extension in his contract last year.

Brandon Williams started at right-back for United against Watford in the FA Cup third round last weekend and he is able back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Alex Telles and Luke Shaw battling for the left-back position.

Speaking about a potential exit for Fosu-Mensah this month, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I’m not sure if he will stay or if he’s going to take an option now,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s not played enough, so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs with a view to leaving now in January.

“It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game-time. He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again.

“It might be end of January or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for.”
